The world-wide famous Venetian Carnival was kicked off on the 8th of February to celebrate a period of opulence before the beginning of Lent, the Christian tradition of 40 days of fasting before Easter begins.

Venice Carnival is famous fro its elaborate masks and costumes and it’s said to date back to the 11th century. This year’s party began with a water parade on the city’s canals, which was admired by thousands of people. Its main theme was “game, love and madness”. (BBC NEWS, 2020)
